You know those overwhelming life moments of
…with your little(s)?
Those tough moments that trigger the perfect storm of personal thoughts and feelings, crashing into each other simultaneously. And it took that particular moment for everything inside you to explode. It’s no longer solely about that particular moment with your little(s), but also about all the other trillion things happening to you and around you.
These detonating moments are inevitable—the demanding role of being a mama is a whole lot. Let’s start there—you’re doing and juggling a lot.
Odds are you’re coming to that moment tired, maybe run down. And, let’s be honest, we can have the selfish tug of not wanting to deal with our little(s) in front of us. But we’re mamas, so we roll up our sleeves, dive in, and hope for a ̶q̶u̶i̶c̶k̶ reasonable resolution.
So, in the spirit of bringing you (and me) back to center in those every day, overwhelming scenarios, here’s some helpful tips to consider:
Remind yourself to be present. Focusing on the current situation temporarily blurs out everything else.
Separate emotion from the task at hand. Don’t let emotions get the best of you, because they want to...and they will.
Consider what person you want to be tomorrow. Are you making choices in this moment to grow closer or move farther away from your desired identity?
Assess how your little(s) is seeing and experiencing you. Visualize how their receiving your tone and your behavior.
There’s no winner. You're purpose is to love and disciple your little(s), not conquer and correct.
Mental note on repeat: “This too shall pass.” Because it will--the moment will end; you'll get to the other side.
Maybe you’re thinking that it’s hard enough to deal with those moments in real time, let alone apply any of these tips. But perhaps taking away just one mutually benefits you and your little(s). After all, just like these tough moments, their childhood too shall pass.
